Rebuild Connection – Rediscover Intimacy - Reignite Passion

“All relationships are constantly cycling through the stages of harmony, disharmony, and repair. And it is the journey through disharmony and repair that can make your relationship stronger.” ~ Terry Real

You want to feel like you and your relationship are a priority again.

Perhaps you feel like you and your partner are strangers and are no longer on the same page. You no longer feel like a priority. You feel trapped, alone, empty and at the end of your rope.  You feel more like roommates but you want more for your marriage. You want to feel appreciated, understood and special in your relationship. You want to feel like a priority.

Feeling disconnected from your partner around issues such as sex, money, parenting, and sharing household responsibilities equally can be frustrating and stressful.

You want to create a new foundation that will make your relationship stronger. You want to feel that you both can safely bring anything up without the other getting defensive or shutting down. You want to feel connected and rekindle that spark. There is hope.

A Research-Based Therapy

All relationships take work; however, you don’t have to continue to use the same methods that have gotten you nowhere.

We will be using the Gottman Method Couples Therapy developed by Drs. John and Julie Gottman.  Backed by four decades of research, Dr. Gottman has been able to determine what behaviors are associated with relationships that last and which behaviors are associated with those that end in divorce.  From this research the Gottman’s have developed a wide range of effective interventions, including:

  • Re-igniting passion and rebuilding friendship
  • Building a culture of appreciation and bridging the gap of emotional distance
  • De-escalating volatile arguments and gridlocked fights
  • Eliminating criticism, contempt, defensiveness and stonewalling
  • Building shared meaning and values for long term connection

How It Works

Traditional weekly couples counseling and premarital counseling all begin with an in-depth assessment process that includes several phases:

  1. An initial joint session where the couple has an opportunity to share with the therapist the history of their relationship, highlighting the seminal moments that led to the current state of distress
  2. Confidential online questionnaire created by the Gottman Institute that identifies the couples strengths and challenges
  3. Individual sessions with each partner, allowing them to share their personal history and perspectives with the therapist
  4. A feedback session in which the therapist shares her observations of their relationship struggles, as well as the development of goals for couples counseling
